Hygiene at Kids Korner Childcare Centre

Kids Korner Child Care Hygiene

Kids Korner Child Care hygiene01

To prevent the spread of germs we maintain a high standard of cleanliness throughout the centre. The centre is cleaned throughout the day by staff and by professional cleaners nightly.

We encourage everyone to wash their hands regularly, especially after toileting/ nappy change, blowing noses and playing outside, before eating and drinking. To prevent germs travelling between home and daycare, we encourage you and your child to wash hands on arrival and departure.

Strict hygiene procedures are followed when preparing and handling food. All staff are trained to wash their hands and put on gloves prior to handling food.

  • All children should wash their hands on arrival, departure, before eating, after outside play, after rest/sleep, and after going to the toilet or a nappy change.
  • This is an important routine to develop with children from the beginning. Children can wash their hands well but it takes time.
  • Babies who are not yet walking will need help from staff to wash their hands.
  • Children of all ages can incorporate handwashing into the arrival routine after hanging up their bags. If parents assist in arrival handwashing procedure it would become a part of the morning ritual of saying goodbye.
  • A similar procedure can be developed for going home. This procedure helps prevent cross infection between the Centre and the home environment.
  • Use posters and/or photos as visual reminders about handwashing.
  • Use handwashing songs.
  • Incorporate handwashing education into the program, or as part of the going to the bathroom routine.
